New Road Act: Hefty fines proposed for those driving uninsured vehicles
Driving an uninsured car or motorcycle may cost you dear, if proposed “New Road Transport and Safety Bill” passed by parliament without changes.
If a motorcyclist is caught riding without an insurance policy, the penalty will be Rs.10, 000, while owner of light vehicles and auto-rickshaws will have to pay Rs.25, 000. For any car or truck driver caught driving without an insurance policy, the penalty is as high as Rs. 75,000. This compare to a fine of Rs 1,000 for all vehicles under the law currently in place.
